The MetropolCon in Berlin is a cross-media event that brings together the three major genres of fantasy. Fantasy, science fiction, and horror are presented, discussed, and conveyed in all their media forms. The Metropol Con in Berlin is rooted in the classic convention format, which is still alive today, with individual fandoms and target groups. At the same time, it also seeks to explore new ways and showcase the fantastic entirety. Since the turn of the millennium, fantasy, science fiction, and horror have finally left their nerdy niche existence and have become important parts of (pop) culture, deeply embedded in the social perception, reception, and overall reality of many people. This has been accompanied by the fundamental disruption of almost all areas of life in the past two decades. Digitization, social media, gamification, streaming, to name a few terms from this area of change, have contributed massively to this. As a whole, fantasy (literature, film, TV, games, art, science & research) has become a cultural and economic factor that transcends traditional boundaries. The MetropolCon in Berlin will bring them all together: new and experienced convention visitors, self-publishing and mainstream publishing, readers and gamers, indie studios and major productions, cosplay and role-playing, streaming and influencers, artists and researchers, industry professionals, fandoms – simply everyone interested in fantastic worlds.
